Moving to a Boston Neighborhood for a Good School System

June 23, 2012 |

Living in a town with a good school system continues to be the focus for many home buyers with children or couples planning to start a family. School systems are often a determining factor for which Boston neighborhood to ultimately purchase real estate, while affordabilty must be considered simultaneously.

Buyers looking for Boston condos in the Back Bay/BeaconHill/South End/Waterfront, or another best Boston neighborhood, have a choice selection of public schools or other exam academies, including Boston Latin School with a stellar reputation. Additionally, there are a number of fine local private schools and boarding schools in the nearby area. New England has a reputation for having the finest private schools in the country.

There are many wonderful public schools in the metropolitan Boston area and its surrounding suburbs. Owning a Boston home in areas like Brookline, Newton, Weston, Wellesley, Winchester, Belmont, Needham, Dedham, etc, provides rich public education opportunities.

Affordability must be considered when looking at properties in these neighborhoods. Housing in some of these suburbs is more expensive than others. So, it is good to compare prices and school ratings before searching for a Boston condo.

I have come across younger families who have lived in the Boston area for a long time and prefer to stay in the city, as long as they can afford housing in an area that offers solid school system. Some couples decide to compromise space to live in the city, instead of searching for property in the suburbs where they could possibly double the number of bedrooms and have a backyard for the same price as many Boston condos. Others simply opt to live in the suburbs for a better school system and hope to purchase a Boston condo later in life.

These choices are complex and require careful consideration. Working with a reputable Boston real estate agent is helpful in sorting through your options and figuring out the right fit for your next home purchase. Contact me to discuss what's best for you and your family!
